If you play CS2, you likely trade skins. In the sea of choices of skin trading platforms, we recently came across GamerPay, a premier marketplace for CS2 enthusiasts looking to buy, sell, or trade skins.
We invite you to grab a coffee, kick back, and spend a few minutes reading (this is one of the rare moments you shouldn’t rush) our GamerPay review and why we think GamerPay will only grow in popularity over the next couple of years. And, as good as GamerPay is, we’ll also look at some things they still need to improve. Let’s go!
Platform Overview & User Journey
The first thing we noticed about GamerPay was the simplicity of the UI and non-distracting designs. Upon further exploration, we noticed some things that didn’t make as much sense.
The top navigation menu gets straight to the point:
Buy: Users don’t even need to click this. Simply scroll down and start your buying spree.
Sell: Before starting to sell, you’ll need to import any skins you may already have or buy some on GamerPay.
Trades: Here, you can see your purchases and sales. You can also track which skins you are trying to bargain for, who is trying to bargain for your skins, and any trade locks or quick orders.
Referral: We really like this area. GamerPay makes it easy to share your referral link across various socials and track the number of link clicks, link sign-ups, and total earnings from referrals and commissions.
Before jumping into buying a skin, we had to create an account by linking our Steam account. Once that was done, we still weren’t done. We needed to complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process. Though this only took a minute or two, we were informed that it may take up to two business days to be approved.
Surprisingly, our account was approved in just around 15 minutes. Very nice.
To buy a skin, we simply had to scroll down on the home page, find the skin we like, and click “buy.”
However, there are just a few things we’d like to mention:
- Every top navigation button took me to a standalone page, except the buy button, which kept me on the homepage. That is unless we scrolled down to the buy section and clicked the “view all” button. Then, we were taken to a standalone buy page that looked exactly the same as if we had just scrolled down.
- There are no buy analytics when the buy page becomes a standalone page. GamerPay mixes the buy and sell information on the standalone sell page. And for some reason, they have a stat for the number of skins we’ve sold but not the number we’ve bought. Yet, we can see the total sell and buy amounts. So, we have to manually go through our buy history to calculate the average buy price. Yes, it’s a tiny issue. However, attention to detail is very important in a space as competitive as buying and selling CS2 skins.
Going back to buying a skin. There are tons of categories and filter options to help you find the best skins on GamerPay. In fact, there are too many to list here, as we’re sure you’re already a quarter done with your coffee, and we’ve yet to get into the coolest features.
So, once we found the skin we wanted, we could simply click “buy.” However, we don’t recommend buying a skin via the “buy” button. Why?
By doing so, the user flow skips a very important screen. The workaround is to buy a skin by clicking on the image of the skin you want to buy. Doing that took us to a screen that has tons of additional features, information, and analytics. From there, we could click “go to checkout”, which took us to the same screen as the first “buy” button. We don’t know the thought process behind that user journey. Hopefully, traders aren’t missing out on so much more just by clicking “buy.” An image of the additional page, which is likely often missed, is below.
Unique Features
GamerPay has two features that stand out and make it a nice platform over what we usually experience while trading skins.
3D Shop: We love this feature and have yet to see it on another skin platform. Creating an account on GamerPay gave us access to our own 3D shop. What does that mean? It means we have a place to showcase everything we are selling. The 3D shop allows a buyer to pick up, shoot, reload, and inspect everything in our shop. As cool as this feature is, it lacks any targets to shoot at, which would put this feature over the top. We couldn’t hear any of the gun sounds either. If that’s because of the platform feature, it’s also something that is lacking.
Pre Deals: This feature allows skins to be bought and sold before the trade lock period ends. It’s great for the seller who doesn’t have to wait to sell a skin and for the buyer who may be speculating that a particular skin will increase in value over a short period.
Marketplace Dynamics
GamerPay is a P2P (peer-to-peer) marketplace. This means that no skins need to be directly uploaded onto GamerPay’s system; the skins are directly traded from within the buyer’s and seller’s Steam inventory. This allows me to continue playing with the skin until it is sold, which is a big plus.
GamerPay has multiple buy and sell options and a very nice P2P system. The various options available for buying and selling skins are:
- Standard buy/sell: This is the standard way of trading skins. A seller lists a price. The buyer pays the listed price and receives the skin.
- Trade locked buy/sell: This is done through the Pre Deal feature. Again, it allows skins to be bought and sold during their trade lock period.
- Bargaining: It is possible to select a “bargain” option while selling a skin. This allows buyers to try to negotiate a price other than the listed price that they are willing to pay. We really like this option. It’s like a “or best offer” feature. We’d hate to miss out on selling one of our skins for hundreds of dollars because the buyer had an account balance of $10 less.
- Quick orders: You can place a quick order on a skin you want to purchase. If it’s accepted, you will receive a trade offer on Steam. If not delivered within 4 hours, the trade order is canceled, and you can try again.
We love the P2P trading system. Though it slows the trading process, it makes it more secure. And We’ll take that over speed any day.
GamerPay trading explained in a simplified flow:
- The buyer finds and pays for a skin. GamerPay holds the payment until the trade is settled.
- The seller is notified about the sale and has 1 hour to accept the trade. After 1 hour, the buyer can cancel the trade and receive a refund.
- The seller creates and notifies the buyer that a trade offer has been created on Steam.
- The buyer then can verify the item and accept the trade.
- Once the buyer on GamerPay confirms the trade, the money is released.
- If the buyer doesn’t confirm the trade within 18 hours, the money is released.
- The buyer also has 18 hours to dispute the trade. If this happens, the trade is put on hold, and GamerPay investigates with both parties.
Security Measures
The P2P system in place is one of the best ways to make trading as transparent as possible. On top of that, GamerPay implements an additional layer of protection for online transactions called 3-D Secure. The combination of these two things should give sellers and buyers peace of mind while trading valuable skins or trading anything in general.
Exclusive Deals and Offers
There are a variety of exclusive deals on GamerPay. These are different from their promotions. GamerPay provides 3 tiers of memberships: Free, Gold, and Diamond. Depending on how much you intend to trade or how expensive the skins are that you trade, the GamerPay premium membership benefits may pay for itself in a very short period due to the elimination of various fees. And since there are no free skins on GamerPay, you’ll definitely pay fees.
In addition to the reduced fees, the Gold and Diamond tiers give members the chance to win really nice premium skin drops, such as Howl, A-rise, Fade, and many others.
User Experience and Strategy
CS2 players buy and sell skins for various reasons. We trade skins that we don’t want to make a bit of money to make the skins we do want a bit cheaper. So, We don’t trade as a job; We want to make our hobby cheaper. If we’re lucky, this will be how to get free skins on GamerPay.
There are a couple of features that we’ll use to enhance our trading tactics on GamerPay. Remember that to trade well, you’ll need more than a platform. You’ll need to follow the CS2 world and be involved in many different communities to follow trends. However, these features on GamerPay can help:
- Supply & demand on GamerPay: This feature can be found by clicking the “analytics” button on the Sell page. In our opinion, the most important categories to track are the number in stock, the number sold, the number of times searched for, and the average time it took to sell each skin.
- Past sales: This feature can be found by clicking on a skin’s image on the Buy page.
Choosing the Right Skins to Trade
The right skins to trade greatly depends on why you are trading. There can be several reasons. Now that you know why we trade, you’ll need to analyze why you trade and build your strategy around that.
There are some basic concepts to follow, no matter why you trade. Whether to help you make more money or simply get a better price on what you buy, here are some things to keep in mind while trading on GamerPay.
No matter the reason you trade, you’ll want to learn to use filters. As we stated above, GamerPay has too many filters to cover. You’ll want to play around with them to get accustomed to using them. This will save a lot of time. A lot!
Skin Trading Strategies
Below are a couple of the best strategies for GamerPay skin trading and how to win in skin trading on GamerPay
- Market Research: To follow trends, you’ll want to keep your ear to the cobblestone (street). The popularity of any given skin can cause its value to rise or drop quickly.
- Competitive pricing: Make sure you follow previous sales, not only the price but also the time between each one. You’ll want to use this information while pricing your skins. GamerPay has a couple of features that can help with this.
- Float and rarity: These two things are likely the most important, more so, rarity. However, the amount of damage each skin has will also come into play. GamerPay has a couple of features that can help with this.
- Follow patch updates: Updates can change the weapon meta in the game. This will also affect pricing.
After considering all of those tips for profitable trading on GamerPay, you’ll also need to check off the basics. Which are mostly common sense:
- Buy low, sell high
- Buy and sell popular skins
- Join active trading communities
Community and Social Interaction
Understanding what goes on in the GamerPay community plays a significant role in being a successful trader. GamerPay is active across all major social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, Discord, and Reddit. They do have a YouTube channel, but it hasn’t been very active in the last six months.
Of course, following GamerPay’s socials will help you stay up to date. However, to be a great trader, you must follow more than 1 channel on any platform.
Economic Impact and Fairness
Like any pure trading platform, the economic impact it can have on you is directly attributed to how you use the platform to trade.
Cost vs. Reward
As we mentioned, we think the Diamond package is well worth the money if you intend to trade often or trade high-value skins. That being said, simply being on the Diamond tier doesn’t mean you’ll make money. However, it definitely is a good start with the fees being removed. This will allow you to either make your prices more competitive or make more per sale. Either way, the cost vs. reward is well worth it.
There is also a 3% sales fee on any skin you sell. Once you add that to the cost of the deposit fees and withdrawal fees, the Diamond package becomes a better deal.
Odds and Transparency
Since GamerPay is a purely skin-trading platform and doesn’t have case openings, odds aren’t a factor. Transparency is top-tier. The P2P trading system is one of the best ways to trade, in our opinion. We really enjoy the system of “checks and balances.” We feel much better sending hundreds of dollars to someone we don’t know for something we can’t hold in our hand.
Promotions and Bonuses
GamerPay’s bonus structures are different from those of their deals and offers. They currently have the following promotions and bonuses in place:
- Welcome bonus: GamerPay will give you €3 after your first purchase. But you’ll have to act fast. You only have 3 days to buy something after you sign up to claim the bonus.
- Referral system: For every person who uses your referral link to sign up and spends €50, you’ll receive €5. It’s not so bad if you are a part of a few large communities. Keep in mind that the referral system is directly connected to trading. Each person who uses your link only has 30 days to buy something. Otherwise, you won’t receive the €5.
- GamerPay promo codes: We couldn’t find any promo code system on the site.
Support
You can contact GamerPay’s support by emailing [email protected]. However, it usually takes 1-2 business days for support to reply to an email, so it’s not the best method. GamerPay lacks live support, which would be a nice addition.
However, GamerPay has a handy bot accessible by clicking the magnifying glass icon on the lower right-hand side of the platform. We found it handy enough to answer all of our questions.
Payment Methods
We found multiple ways to add money to the wallet, our favorite being with crypto. These methods include:
- Credit and Debit cards: Major cards like Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro. GamerPay takes 2.5% + €0.70 in deposit fee for all non-elite members.
- Crypto: There are multiple options if the deposit is over 0.001 BTC. If it’s below, they only accept BTC.
- Bank transfers: There is a €15 minimum deposit and a 1.5% deposit fee for all non-elite members. The money will hit your account in 1-3 business days.
Withdrawals are only possible to a bank account and have a processing time of 2 business days.
Our Rating
There are some issues with customer support and a lack of withdrawal options. However, the overall user experience is very nice. Amazing design, useful features, and secure trading make GamerPay a great platform.
Design and usability: 4.5/5
Bonuses: 4/5
Customer support: 3/5
Withdrawal methods: 3/5
Overall Rating: 4/5
Final thoughts
The P2P trading system is amazing. Trading skins with an extra layer of security is always nice. We are curious how slow the P2P dispute flow would be, considering the site only has email support. We haven’t had any trading issues, so we weren’t able to test that, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Becoming a paying member is well worth it if you trade a lot or with high-value skins.
A few tweaks to their withdrawal options and customer support can definitely help GamerPay stand out in the competitive marketplace of trading skins.
FAQ
What’s the difference between GamerPay trading vs. traditional trading?
GamerPay uses a P2P trading system. Which, in our opinion, is much better than other traditional trading platforms. It is much more secure and will make trading skins a much less risky hobby.
Is buying an elite membership worth it?
Yes and no. It really depends on how much you trade and the value of the skins you trade if your trades are in the thousands of dollars each month. Yes. If not, no.
